Virtual Dancing using Zoom

Hello and Welcome to The K&DOTDC Online Dancing using the ZOOM app.

The COVID-19 virus has resulted in all of us being confined to our homes, disrupting our social life and potentially becoming isolated. Over the past two weeks Ray, Jan Jill and myself have been exploring the potential of using the ZOOM app to bring us together, to again enjoy each others company, listen to some dance music and dance. We now feel we are confident we can make this work.

The way it will work is that anyone who wants to be involved would need to have the free ZOOM.us app installed on their PC (this is the preferred device), tablete.g. iPad or smart phone.

As the convener of the dance meeting I will send out an invitation to those who want to be involved via email. This would contain the planned dance program and a LINK to the meeting. To be part of the meeting all that is required is for you to click on the LINK and then you would be added to the waiting room of the meeting. I would then admit you to the meeting.

After some chitchat, I would then start the dance program using the music from my PC i.e. the same music database that I use for our Tuesday club night dances.

If you do not have ZOOM.us app (remember it’s free) it can be installed in several different ways:

1) It can downloaded from the Apple or Windows app store.

2) By typing ZOOM.us into Google which will take you to ZOOM.us website which contains simple App download instructions.

3) If you do not have the ZOOM.us installed and you click on the invitation link sent to you, you will be asked whether you want to install ZOOM and guided through the install process. This only needs to be done once.

If you would like to give this a try, please send me your email address and your preferred days of the week and time for the dance meeting? Could be afternoon or evening

Initially we start with one dance session per week, probably for about one and a half hours duration. If this proves popular we could increase this.

The ZOOM program allows for 49 people to attend, but I would like to start with say 12 or 15 as this enables everyone to be easily seem on the PC screen, but we could experiment with the numbers.

Once I have sufficient positive responses I will create the first invitation list and away we will go.

Yours truly: John Bennett email: John_n_bennett44@bigpond.com

Ray S “in a tight spot.”

An  incident that I had recently.  A TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE !!!    Recently I awoke during the night to feel my body being slowly but firmly pulled down the bed.  I was on my back and dug my hands into the mattress.  All to no avail, as I was pulled another foot or so.   I froze knowing that if I moved the intruder would have the upper hand in suffocating me.  It was very dark and I couldn’t  detect anybody so I slowly moved my arm to turn my bed light away from me and as I switched it on, I quickly thru myself out  the other side of my bed.  So far so good.  No voice  or running feet!  After some time I got up and investigated each room, door and window.  Inside and outside.  Nobody.  It was only 2 am but I couldn’t get myself to go back to bed before daylight came around.  I was so concerned,  that I went away for a few days.  On returning home, night came and on going to bed, I pulled the bedding back and noticed that the double fitted,  under sheet, had come off the mattress,  on the corner that I had been sleeping on, on the night of my ‘intruder.’  Mystery solved.  It had always been a very tight fit and the tension had been enough to move my entire body 18 inches down the bed till my knees were completely bent up tight under the bedclothes, as my ‘intruder’ was pulling me slowly but surely, down the bed!  Phew.   True story and I wonder if it has ever happened to anyone else !!!   Regards Ray Sharrock

My Tribute to Bill Hickey

Very sad to hear of Bill’s passing.  He always made me feel better than I did.  He will be long remembered.  My People and Bill’s People go back 100 years,  to when ‘Goodnight’ started in 1921.  No Song brings back more memories to me of my life at Goodnight and Mid Victoria than ‘These are my Mountains’.  I will be thinking of you Bill, whenever I dance to that song.  Miss you Bill.

Ray Sharrock.
